Institutions -like schools, factories or hospitals- strive for AIDS Competence at the work place

Partners: Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN)

The Constellation's first contract as an independent organization was signed in March 2005 with the Aga Khan Development Netowrk (AKDN) to work together with all organisations of the foundation in Kenya over 2 years.

The Network Facilitation Team facilitates the AIDS Competence Process in 16 institutions. AKDN consists of institutions as diverse as Banks, Hotels, Insurance Companies, Hospitals, Social services, Schools and Madrasas.

The collaboration had a real impact. Dr Kamran Hameed of the Aga Khan University Hospital sees the AIDS Competence process as being the catalyst which has brought the diverse elements of the network together. For the first time in his experience, they see a common purpose and a common goal.

The AIDS Competence Process has now been integrated into the work policy of AKDN and practical benefits are already being delivered. These range from institutions seeing large increases in the number of staff volunteering to go for testing to sharing information on access to ARVs.
