The Community Life Competence Process
The power of appreciation
When facilitators meet with communities they look for their strengths. They do not start from their weaknesses. We call SALT our mode of interaction with communities.
S : stands for Stimulate, Support
A : stands for Appreciate

SALT is the DNA of the Constellation. More about SALT.
Facilitation of local responses
SALT reveals the capacity of communities to build a vision for the future, to assess, to act, to adapt and to learn. We call this cycle the Community Life Competence Process. At each step of the process, a facilitation team supports the community with an appreciative way-of-working and a set of tools. Click on a step in the diagram to know more about it.
What we propose
Any group, network or organization can start its own facilitation team. The Constellation accompanies facilitation teams through a series of learning events, support visits and distance support. More about our offer
The Community Life Competence process has been introduced in more than 20 countries with strong results. This is confirmed by independent external evaluations.
The WHO-UNICEF evaluation of AIDS Competence in Papua New Guinea (2009) concludes: The AIDS Competence Process is an effective approach in combating HIV/AIDS through local empowerment and should be continued and expanded. It meets local needs and its consistent support resulted in sustained local actions.
