Going to scale with the AIDS Competence Process
DR-Congo
Communities throughout DR-Congo start to take the response to HIV in their own hands. Stimulated by 216 SALT team, they use their own strengths to make HIV a virus of the past. Truckers and PLHIV become agents of change
Burundi, DR-Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda
Networks of truckers and PLHIV in the six GLIA countries work in teams to stimulate their communities to take action on HIV. "We, truckers in Burundi, are now managing the lodging at the truckers stop. You can now rent a room without necessarily sharing it with a sex workers." Asian NGOs adopt a strength-based approach
Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Thailand
473 NGO representatives from six Asian countries use the AIDS Competence Process to stimulate more than 543 local communities to act. Teams in six Asian countries support the spread of the AIDS Competence Process in their country
Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Thailand
The Constellation and the Asian Development Bank support the development of country teams in six countries -Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Thailand. For one year, the teams in each country will develop strategies to spread the AIDS Competence Process at scale in their context.

Communities in 5 provinces in Papua New Guinea have a new perspective in life. Where alcohol, drugs and domestic violence used to be part of daily life, people build on their own strengths to organize youth groups, skills building sessions, cleaning the community, open the discussion about HIV, etc. More about the process in PNG
Villages in Ethiopia assess their own HIV risk
Ethiopia
Facilitation teams will stimulate nomadic or pastoral communities in Ethiopia to assess their own level of risk to HIV and to act. IIRR, Cordaid and the Constellation will collaborate on integrating the AIDS Competence Process into Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction Assessment.

A SALT revolution in Guyana
Guyana
Five teams in Guyana are learning about the facilitation of the AIDS Competence Process since February 2010. “After 28 of years being involved with drugs and crime, the old Marc has died, a new Marc is implanted and it has been a remarkable transformation,” shared Marc Dannett, one of the participants who works with prisoners. The process is supported by UNAIDS.

Since September 2007, teams in the cities of Pontianak, Singkawang and Merauke stimulate their communities to respond to HIV, with support of UNFPA. District leadership are playing a key role in supporting the approach by word and deed.

Associations of disabled people (blind, deaf, physically disabled) and AIDS organisations across 3 provinces developed their capacity to facilitate the AIDS Competence Process. “Many people (with HIV or a disability) who were hiding at home come out and disclose.” explained the communication officer of Rensida. Blended learning: a mix of online modules and practical application in the field
Teams around the world will be able to learn and practice the AIDS Competence Process through the Blended Learning, a new online course. This course has been developed by the Constellation and the Norwegian Center for Telemedicine to bring the AIDS Competence Process to scale.

Based on the Constellation's approach, Groupe Pivot established throughout the country Equipes d'Appui et Apprentissage (support & learning teams). With support from the Global Fund, they are now scaling up the approach in the majority of communities in the region of Sikasso. Cordaid has worked in South Africa with 14 partners on HIV/ AIDS who have a lot of valuable experiences and practices. Cordaid asked the Constellation to support its partners to capture good practices.

Thailand Interfaith Network on AIDS shares about SALT with dutch Togetherness Foundation
Togetherness Foundation, an intercultural organization from the Netherlands, visited the InterFaith Network on HIV/AIDS in Thailand (INHAT). Together with Constellation coaches, INHAT introduced the SALT approach and did several SALT visits together. This exchange is supported by Oxfam/Novib from the Netherlands. The focus of the exchange was about how SALT can be a bridge between different religions.

Belgium learns from DR-Congo
Belgium
Fondation Roi Baudouin supported two exchange visits of Eric Ngabla, facilitator of RDCCompetence. Twenty six facilitators from BelCompetence, the Belgium national facilitation team, improved their facilitation skills during the learning event and several SALT visits to refugee centres, youth houses and Belgian politicians. Diabetes Competence Process

Handicap International and the Constellation adapted the AIDS Competence Process to diabetes. Burundi, India and Nicaragua decided to carry the approach forward and, with our support, to adapt the AIDS Self Assessment tool and to test the tool in the field.
